1. Know the Exam Format
The NPPE is:
- Multiple Choice – All questions have one correct answer.
- Closed Book – No reference materials allowed.
- Computer-Based – Delivered online with secure proctoring.
- 2.5 hours long – You have 150 minutes to complete 110 questions.
Familiarize yourself with the format ahead of time using NPPE-style practice exams.
2. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
It’s tempting to cram the night before, but your brain needs rest to function at its best. Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep. You'll think more clearly and avoid careless mistakes.

3. Eat a Light, Balanced Meal
Fuel your brain with something easy to digest—think whole grains, fruits, or eggs. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that might make you sluggish or uncomfortable.
4. Test Your Technology
(If Writing Online)
If your exam is remote:
- Check your internet connection
- Ensure your webcam and mic are working
- Clear your workspace for proctoring
- Log in early to resolve any last-minute issues
Your test environment must be distraction-free and meet exam rules.

5. Arrive Early (Or Log in Early)
Whether you're writing in-person or online, be ready at least 30 minutes before the start time. This gives you a buffer in case of technical or setup delays.
6. Manage Your Time
You have 110 questions in 150 minutes—that’s about 1 minute and 20 seconds per question.
Strategy:
- Don’t get stuck—mark difficult questions and move on
- Use your final minutes to review flagged questions
- Trust your instincts on your first answer

7. Read Questions Carefully
NPPE questions often include:
- Double negatives
- Trick options
- Subtle differences in wording
Tip: Slow down. Underline keywords mentally. Read all options before answering.
8. Use What You’ve Practiced
Rely on the test strategies and techniques you’ve used during practice:
- Spotting distractors
- Eliminating clearly wrong choices
- Looking for alignment with the NPPE Blueprint

9. Stay Calm & Focused
If you start to feel overwhelmed:
- Take a deep breath
- Re-center your focus
- Remind yourself: you've prepared for this!
10. After the Exam
Once you're done, don’t stress about the results. You’ve done your best. Reflect on how you felt, and if needed, review areas for improvement for future attempts (though most pass on the first try with preparation!).

Ready to Get Started?
